Waiting on Wednesday!

This Wednesday I'm waiting on The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa. It'll be out in August! Whoo! Right around my birthday! Although, I'd much rather it was out now. :)

It sounds amazing right? I'm re-reading The Iron King, the first in the series, so that I can review it for the blog and now I'm really excited about The Iron Daughter! If you're interested in The Iron Daughter you can read The Iron King, the first in the Iron Fey series, or the novella Winter's Passage available here for download. Winter's Passage is a short story about Meaghan and Ash, two of the main characters in the book, and their journey into winter. This story takes place just after the first book so after you read this you'll be ready for the release of The Iron Daughter in August. I haven't read Winter's Passage yet, but I plan to shortly and even though it's not technically a book I'll put a review up!

Review: Citizen Girl

After reading Citizen Girl, I decided to give myself some time to think about it before I reviewed it hoping to process it a bit better but still I come up short for words. It was a pretty good book over all, but I just found it extremely strange. I'm not sure what to make of it. Girl has a very witty perspective on life and she's an enjoyable character who I think most can relate to. But, the situations she's in just seem slightly far fetched for me (although I'm still in high school so I wouldn't go by me for that one). She goes from working at a feminist company to working for an internet site which ends up transforming into a porn site, all the while she's trying to help a feminist charity that helps girls in the sex trade but, the director of that charity seems almost to not care about the porn situation and that one of the girls she saved is in it. It was a strange book.

The book was well written however. I really enjoyed the style of writing and how they made Girl seem like a real person. They didn't try and make their main characters life perfect, they made it realistic and easy to relate to. They question morals and money and the choice between the two. It's very interesting behind all of the strange. It seemed pretty realistic economy, dating, and work wise.

Overall, I probably would never suggest this book to anyone because I found it just too strange.

This book consists of four stories by four different authors that all center around the same incident at a wedding involving a ceiling fan and a bad throw from the bride. All of the stories were very easy reads and go by quickly. They can be read in no particular order so you don't have to feel bad about skipping one.

Plot wise, the stories all lacked originality. They start out meeting the person of their dreams, falling in love, denying it, then coming together for a happy ending (like most other stories involving love). This is fine really but reading it four times in a row can be hard to take. Also, all of the authors basically had the same writing style so that also caused me to start to lose interest quickly too. You really have to be in the mood to read this book. I found myself losing interest quickly but when I was ready I was excited to get back to it.

The redeeming quality was the characters. I found all of the characters, with the exception of Konni from the second story, to be very enjoyable. They all had great personalities and all of the stories switched points of view so you really got to know them all. The characters were the only thing that kept me from putting this book down for good I believe.

Overall, the book lacked originality and was almost too simple but had likable characters to keep you coming back for more.

The Beginning of a Wonderful Blog! (Hopefully!)

Up until seventh grade I wasn't much of a reader. I thought, "Why read when you can go do something exciting and real?" Then along came Harry Potter and co. And right after that, the ever popular Twilight! That's when I realized what I wanted to do with my life. Read. It wasn't until this past year that I learned about the joys of book blogging. My sister introduced me to my first (and now favorite) blog The Story Siren. After that I stumbled around and discovered a few more that I've found quite interesting. For awhile I was just content surfing the web, reading others reviews, but sometime last week I grew restless. I thought to myself, "Psht. I can do that!" And so that's what I'm doing. (Although now I'm not so sure if I actually can do it! :/ ) This is my first blog ever so please go easy on me! :)

Now lemme fill you in on what's going on so far! Right now there are no reviews! :( I know it's very sad, but keep checking I'll hopefully get first up sometime tomorrow. I'll pretty much review anything. I read pretty much every genre as long as the book either sounds good or has an appealing cover (yes, I judge books by their cover). In case you're wondering what the heck is coming next, over on the side bar <--- is where I'll be posting the book I'm currently reading and the book that I'm writing my next review on. I hope to get a review up every other day, but hey, no one's perfect! Once I get a few reviews under my belt I'm going to start participating in some memes! They're always fun!
